  • Phrase of the day....

... Candy-ass slut. The things people come up with when you give them an assignment to write twenty lines of dialogue.
Spider came by the Techionery this afternoon and I was so surprised that I dropped the chair I was carrying and almost lifted her off the floor in embrace.
I noticed today that I've started stuttering again. Not good, but somewhat amusing.
I chopped off my hair. Again. Figured it was time.
Two things I am never going to be good at: taking compliments, and trusting people.
New game everyone seems to be into: give the vegan hell by passing around carnivore stories. WTF?
And, last but not least, Cub Scout Ian the Splendiferous Sound Assistant and I tested the pickup line with the sugar packet (you know the one, it goes, "hey, you dropped your name tag") and it didn't work, but if someone could execute it properly, it would have massive potential to leave millions of women weak in the knees. Or it would just be good for a laugh and a phone number.

Do I care about the next big thing, about what's popular, about what everyone else is doing? Honestly, no.
Do I care about what makes the masses comfortable or uncomfortable, about offending others, about the sanctity of whatever cause you seem to be endlessly striving for? Again, that would be a no.
Do I care about what new crap invention might save me time and money on a task that I never before found nearly as tedious as your late-night infomercial likes to suggest? No.
But what I do care about is that you fucking think for yourselves, and that you grow a soul, and that you're human. You're human and on some level I love you all... sexually. Just kidding.

  • A Bird in the Hand...

Walking across campus this afternoon I saw a dead blue jay that had been washed up in last night's rain. It made me sad, so I have to post this picture (with accompanying story) to make me feel better...
Back in June, I was leaving Witherspoon through the smoker's exit, and the first thing I saw as I opened the door was this small bird caught in one of the wrought-iron decorations of the bench in front of me. I got closer, thinking it would fly away or something, but it just stayed there. Being someone who was brought up in the world of wildlife biology instead of Disney, I was alarmed. I thought it might be seriously hurt, because it seemed confused, and not moving at all except for its head. I touched the bench next to the bird to look on the other side, expecting to see blood and gore, but there was none. I touched the bird on the tip of its wing. It finally became aware of my presence and flew... into the trash can. I opened the lid of the trash can, and it flew to the opening, then into the bush. Where it stayed and no one could budge it. Silly bird. I took a quick picture and left it to fend for itself, marvelling in the oddity of the bird's behavior. Hopefully it's grown into a more conscientious bird and not currenlty roadkill or in the intestines of a housecat.

    Or
maybe we could dress up in costume, but I know how we are and we'd

However, I believe the most difficult thing in life is to hate something and love hating it.

    You
probably dont know exactly how it is that you know every single word,
all the drum breaks, all the lame harmonies, but the thing is, you do,
and all of a sudden youre back in the 80s going 60 miles per hour,
    really feeling it.
We're repeating this tragedy every single time that you pick up the

I admire him for that; it's so easy to hear things about yourself you
don't like and simply sweep them under the rug, or excuse them based on
circumstances, or spin them into something more positive and pretty.
Don't trick yourself into feeling that the way you acted caused the
demise of any relationship you have ever been in.

Because I have no life, I wound up watching this movie on youtube by one of my favorite pioneers of experimental film, Marcel Duchamps. Watching led to reading the words, which led to trying to translate the words using my limited high school language education, to getting the phrases translated online. This led to the film making even less sense than before.

    1) Bains de gros the pour grains de beaute sans trop de bengue.
     - Baths of wholesale trade tea for grains of beauty without surplus of bengue.
    2) L'enfant qui tete est un souffleur de chair chaude et n'aime pas le chou-fleur de serre chaude.

  • Take notes, because there may be a quiz later...

I have an odd habit of wrapping scotch tape around my left index finger, at the first knuckle. It helps me think, but other than that I can't think of a good reason for its existence.
Why does the word "fornication" not sound nearly as hot as it is?
I am far too much of a perfectionist for my own good, it seems. It takes me twice as long as most people in my design class to finish an assignment.
Interesting story I heard in World Religions class: so there was this tiger that got taken in from a young age by a herd of goats. As it grew up, it began to believe it was a goat. It walked like a goat, sounded like a goat, ate like a goat, and butted heads like a goat. One day an older tiger was stalking the herd and saw the tiger with the other goats, just running along, bleating and chewing on grass. The older tiger confronted the younger tiger, who at first was scared the older tiger would eat it. The older tiger just said "You are not a goat. You are a tiger. Come, I'll show you." and led the younger tiger out to its lair. Before the younger tiger he set a freshly killed carcass and told the tiger to eat. At first the younger tiger was disgusted, and choked down a mouthful. Then he started eating more, and became more enthusiastic. Soon, he was taking in his fill, then all at once he let out this ferocious roar. He looked at the older tiger and realized his true form, and all it took was a push. And, well, you know, consuming several pounds of dead muscular material.

  • Happy National Paranoia Day!

And that's all I have to say about that. Seriously. If I went on and on about hysteria, wars, suffering, fear-mongering, and such, I'd be here all night screaming at the computer screen. Damn my indignant hippie ways.

There are frogs everywhere on campus at night. They are very entertaining to watch. But I have to wonder if, this early in the year with the scrambling to hibernation, if they know something we don't...

I have never hated football so much as I have this season. Tech fever is everywhere, and it's like nothing else exists. Bah.

My cynicism is starting to make other people defensive. Which I hate. I used to see good in people, I swear. I used to be a nice person. I used to not judge people. And now all that is starting to get in the way and make others distrust me.

In design class, we kept the cd player on shuffle, and around the time we left for stagecraft three hours later, Apocalyptica's cover of "Fade to Black" came up. It was an odd feeling. Not bad, but somewhat captivated in the slow pull of the strings.

  • Supply and Demand

Everything in life now, it seems, is meted out by an economic equation. Quality of a something, a somewhere, or a someone, is based on all these factors, most of which have to do with popularity or "demand". Everything has it's price. And that price is determined by others that don't really understand. And this is why I am a cynic.

Someday I will make a slasher flick entitled "Surgeon General". And it will be glorious.

I got an extremely ironic email today. But it's only ironic because the people who sent it really didn't know who they were talking to. • The Word of the Day is "Orgy"

Actually, the real word of the day was "Whore", but that's just something we throw around here in the happy land of college theatre.
Having to explain why my index finger is attached to my assistant's face during rehearsal is kind of like explaining why geese eat pretzels.
How theatre shop worked two years ago: 3 smoke breaks over a two hour call. Nothing got done. How shop works now: one watermelon break over a two hour call. Nothing gets done. Wtf?
I've been watching Bollywood films lately. They make me happy. So does drinking V-8. Liquid vegetable goodness.

Three things I would do if I ever took over a country:
    1. Everyone gets their left nipple pierced. Just as a painful reminder of who's boss now.
    2. Change all patriotic symbolism to something that praises my exploits in some way.
    3. Throw out the constitution, declaration of independence, and burn down the important parts of the nation's capital and put the nation's biggest commercial area, like maybe a factory, over it.
*Why, you might ask? Because if you break down the peoples' psyche before you start making outrageous dictatorial demands, there is much less confusion and resistance. True, there will still be some, but it wouldn't be the same. The masses follow symbolism, and see their leader as a symbol itself. Take that away, and they have nothing left to hold on to.

     - Edit: the person I discussed the topic of dictatorial demands with suggested branding instead of piercing, as it's more permanent and much more painful. I tend to agree.
